He worked in Romania with dragons and was responsible for helping transport dragons to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament. During the Second Wizarding War, he joined the Order of the Phoenix.

Charlie Weasley Birthplace

Charlie Weasley was born in Great Britain as a pureblood wizard.

Charlie Weasley’s Parents and Family

Charlie Weasley’s parents were Molly and Arthur Weasley. They were both pureblood. Molly was a stay-at-home mother, and Arthur worked for the Ministry of Magic. They were very loving and supportive, championing muggles and non-purebloods alike.

He has many siblings. William (Bill) was his older brother. As Charlie was the second child, most of his siblings were younger, including Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. Fleur Delacour became his sister-in-law, as did Hermione Granger and Angelina Johnson. Harry Potter became his brother-in-law.

As a result of his large family, Charlie became a no doubt wonderful uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews.

Charlie Weasley’s Physical Traits

Charlie Weasley was described as short and stocky but very muscular. His muscular arms were covered in burns, and his hands were covered in calluses. His face was very tan and weather-beaten.

Being outside a lot, he was also covered in freckles. He had red hair like the rest of the Weasley family and likely had long hair (before his mother forcibly cut it for Bill’s wedding).

Charlie Weasley Early Life

Charlie Weasley was raised in Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon, England. His mother taught him basic skills while at home. He grew up in a house full of siblings where they all played together in the yard (flying and playing Quidditch with apples). He showed an interest in animals, especially dragons, from a young age.

Charlie Weasley Hogwarts Years

Charlie went to Hogwarts at age 11. He was sorted into Gryffindor House. He was in the same year as Nymphadora Tonks, but she was in Hufflepuff.

He became the speaker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team by the end of his second year. He decided to take care of magical creatures in his third year because he enjoyed working outside. He would often sneak into the Forbidden Forest to explore more animals.

During his fifth year, he was made prefect. In his sixth year, he was made captain of the Quidditch team. During his seventh year, he took the apparition class offered by the Ministry of Magic and, in the spring of that same year, took his test. He failed the first time but passed the second time.

Charlie Weasley after Hogwarts Years

After Charlie graduated from Hogwarts, he went to Romania to study dragons. Many of his peers noted that he could have gone on to play Quidditch as a professional, but he preferred to be outdoors with animals.

Norbert

During Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, each professor sets up security measures to protect the stone. Hagrid volunteered his three-headed dog, Fluffy. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione went to visit him and ascertained this information, they also learned Hagrid had won a dragon’s egg in a tournament at the Hog’s Head.

This dragon egg was left in the fire until a Norwegian Ridgeback burst forth. Owing to the fact that Hagrid lived in a house made of wood, that it was illegal to own them, and that Draco had caught sight of Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback, Ron asked Charlie for help.

Charlie wrote back that a few of his friends would be in the area shortly thereafter and could arrange for the pickup and (secret) transportation of the dragon back to Romania. There, Charlie would take care of it and raise it. However, even transporting the dragon was illegal, so everything had to be arranged carefully.

Later, when Hagrid asked about Norbert’s well-being, Charlie informed Hagrid that Norbert was actually a female.

Quidditch World Cup

Charlie and Harry officially met at the Burrow when Charlie returned home for the Quiddich World Cup. He, alongside his father and brothers, was among those of-age wizards who helped the Ministry when a group of masked death eaters was causing a riot and torturing a Muggle family.

Charlie remained at home long enough to escort his family (and Harry) onto the Hogwarts Express.

The Triwizard Tournament

Charlie Weasley shows up to bring in the dragons to be used during the Triwizard tournament. At some point, he likely agreed to allow Hagrid to see the dragons because Charlie is not the least bit surprised when Hagrid shows up around midnight in the Forbidden Forest.

However, Charlie was not pleased that Hagrid had brought Madame Maxine along, as she was very likely to tell her student, Fleur, about the task.

Charlie explained that the Ministry wanted mother dragons, who still had eggs, and Charlie did not envy the students who had to contend with them. Charlie and his team had applied a sleeping draught to the dragons before transporting them.

Charlie refrained from telling his mother what the first task involved because she was already fearful for Harry’s life. When Hagrid let out a moan of longing toward the eggs, Charlie sternly reminded him that all eggs had been counted and Charlie would know if one went missing.

After the first task, he wrote to Bill to talk all about Harry’s incredible performance, especially in light of the fact that he fought the most vicious of the four dragons. After that, however, Charlie was unable to take time off work for the remaining tasks.

Second Wizarding War

At the conclusion of the Triwizard Tournament, when Dumbledore reformed the Order of the Phoenix to fight Voldemort, Charlie joined. He remained in Romania for the time being, as Dumbledore wanted as many witches and wizards as possible outside the country.

He returned home for Bill’s wedding, prior to which his mother forcibly cut his hair; he was not pleased. Charlie was questioned by the new Ministry after death eaters broke up the wedding reception, but he was allowed to return to work under careful watch.

During the final Battle of Hogwarts, Charlie showed up late. He was not present during the first part of the battle but showed up after the one-hour break. This is likely because he was out of the country and did not receive word as quickly as everyone else. When he arrived, he fought bravely alongside Horace Slughorn.

Charlie helped guide reinforcements consisting of family and friends of Hogwarts students and locals from Hogsmeade who wanted to fight. These reinforcements helped change the tide of the final battle in favor of Hogwarts.

Charlie Weasley Magical Abilities and Special Skills

Perhaps his best skill was the care of magical creatures. He was very talented when it came to animals and, after graduating, went on to work with dragons.

Dragons were some of the most dangerous beasts to work with, so his continued study of dragons indicated that he had great skill at handling even the most challenging of magical creatures.

Charlie was highly regarded as an excellent Quidditch player. The Gryffindor team states that they hadn’t won the Quidditch Cup since Charlie was on the team. He was an excellent flyer and played Seeker.

He helped the team win the cup on multiple occasions, and people like Oliver Wood argued Charlie could have gone professional if he hadn’t pursued a career with dragons.

Charlie demonstrated great dueling skills during the Battle of Hogwarts, where he fought death eaters alongside his family.

Other magical abilities included apparition. Charlie passed his test the second time he took it, just like his brother, Ron. He was good at charms, able to produce a non-corporeal Patronus, exploding charms, and levitating charms. He was good at muggle studies (likely thanks to his father’s admiration for all things Muggle related).

He was also a very sociable person, cultivating friendships with people around the world. This is evidenced by the fact that he had friends he could call on to break the law and transport a baby dragon for him at the drop of a hat.

Charlie Weasley Wand

Charlie Weasley’s first wand was made of wash with unicorn hair. It came from Mr. Ollivander in Diagon Alley. At some point in adulthood, he acquired a second wand and gave his first to Ron.

Charlie Weasley Trivial and Fun Facts

Charlie attended Hogwarts the same year as Nymphadora Tonks.

Charlie owned two wands, the first of which he eventually gave to his younger brother, Ron when Ron started school.

Given how poor the Weasley family was and the timeframe when Charlie gifted his old wand to Ron, it is very likely that Charlie was on his own and making decent enough money to invest in a new wand for himself, knowing that doing so would provide him the chance to help ease the strain on his family and younger siblings.
